Reminder: NELA Welcome Wagon with Communication & Negotiation Class... @ Sun Apr 21, 2013 6:30pm - 9:30pm (NELA Calendar)

NELA Welcome Wagon with Communication & Negotiation Class with P.E.T.E.!

https://fetlife.com/events/157939

Newcomers & Seasoned Kinksters: $10 pre-paid/$15 cash/check at the door/discounts for NELA associates and affiliated groups (please bring your up-to-date group card); tickets on sale soon at www.nelaonline.org!

6:30pm: Mix & Mingle: Part icebreaker, part low-pressure social time, take this opportunity to connect with other new folks and talk with established community folks who'll do their best to answer your questions. Ooh, and there'll be snacks!

7:00pm: Community Overview: Find out about local groups and upcoming classes and events.

7:30pm: P.E.T.E./footplay210_PETE presents Communication & Negotiation in the Scene! (We are asking that folks who have been in the kink world for a while respect the newcomers' space from 6:30pm-7:30pm, but please do join us for the class at 7:30pm! And we'll save some snacks for you, too!)

P.E.T.E. is the founder of Tickle New England! and has been teaching kink classes for NELA and other regional organizations and venues since 2008. He has organized gatherings and events in the New England area and a foot fetishism mini-conference for the Society in Hartford, CT. In his many conversations with people new to kink and fetish play, he has heard the concerns and frustrations of people attempting to communicate and negotiate their needs, wants and fantasies with others. This interactive presentation is an opportunity to address some of the questions and concerns that can help us manage these important communication and negotiation processes.

The NELA Welcome Wagon is for tops, bottoms, switches, and undeclareds. Groups like NEDS and Mob have awesome orientations as part of membership, but folks who aren't necessarily looking to or ready to join a group still can use a friendly face, some helpful hints, and a place to meet other new folks, to ask questions, and to get community information. The idea of the Fleadom Trail -- a play on Boston's "Freedom Trail," navigating the twisty turns and landmarks with a guide -- was created to give attendees to NELA's Fetish Fair Fleamarkets a boost up, a community member to turn to, and a way to figure out how to get the most out of the event. Working from that jumping-off point, the NELA Welcome Wagon event series at Unity Somerville -- with snacks, presenter, and class topic focused on new folks -- is low-pressure and welcoming. There'll be nice people to meet. There'll be hand-outs with information on local events. And there'll be me, someone who likes trying to answer questions or directing you to someone who has the answer.

The NELA Welcome Wagon is also for seasoned kinksters, kinksters who may already have found or created community for themselves, kinksters who know where to go, how to get invited, how they fit into the greater kink world or scene. While seasoned kinksters are asked to not attend the Welcome Wagon until 7:30pm to give the newer folks time to mingle with each other (from 6:30pm-7:30pm), seasoned kinksters are very much invited to attend the class and meet some fresh faces. And have snacks!

Consider the NELA Welcome Wagon events to be a gateway, a stepping stone, a low-key and fun way to orient yourself within the broader local kink world!
